Birth Matters: An Introduction
My name is Lily Angell and I am one of the three new interns working for Southeast Michigan Doula Project. I have been a practicing doula since February 2015 and hope to one day become a Midwife for maternal health, childbirth and working with families are my greatest passions.
One of my roles as an intern will be creating weekly content for this blog. Content that is educational, inclusive, supportive and positive. Every week I will be contributing a post called "Birth Matters", which plays on the word matter. Not only will these posts aim to highlight the importanace of birth, but they will include links to resources, news stories and discuss the general business, circumstance and happenings of topics within maternal health.
For my first post I wanted to keep it simple by sharing an inspiring youtube channel called "I am a Midwife". The video below, "Midwives Know Birth Matters", interviews a diverse group of midwives who reflect on the power and connection gained through the experience of birth. Check out this video and then explore their other videos!

*All of these links are meant to inform, create dialogue and provide a variety of perspectives. Birth occurs in many places, through many different paths and what is most important is that informed decisions are exercised, a birthing woman is supported and the experience is empowering.
