Meet The SMDP Interns!
This semester the Southeast Michigan Doula Project has some wonderful new interns they’d like to introduce you to!
My name is Joanna McKelvey. I am a junior at the University of Michigan, double majoring in Communication Studies and Psychology with a minor in Gender and Health. I’ve had the pleasure of working with SMDP since early February and have enjoyed all of the tasks Brynne has put me on. My favorite so far has been finalizing the new doula orientation program and creating a plan to implement that and bring all the doulas closer together. My hobbies include eating large amounts of pasta, napping, getting lost in a good book, and (if I’m feeling really motivated) running!
Rachel Cullen is another intern whose been working with SMDP since the beginning of February. Rachel and I both got involved with SMDP through a Women’s Studies class at U of M. Rachel is a fellow junior wolverine, majoring in Psychology with a minor in Gender and Health. Rachel’s favorite part of her internship has been conducting client intakes since it allows her interact with all the wonderful mothers that SMDP supports. In her free time, Rachel enjoys reading, listening to music, traveling, and hanging out with friends.
Lily Angell has been here a little longer than Rachel and I. She began volunteering with SMDP in March 2015 as a birth doula, and then became an intern this January. She will be graduating from U of M this May with a major in Anthropology. Lily’s work at SMDP focuses on various social media platforms. She has enjoyed working on the blog since it gives her a creative outlet and forces her to stay up to date on current events. She’s also very excited to launch the SMDP Instagram account (@southeastmidoulaproject follow us! ☺). When she’s not busy working at SMDP, Lily enjoys photography, writing, running, spending time outside and watching, reading or listening to birth stories.
Thanks for taking the time to read a little about us! We’re all so excited to be working for such a great organization and hope to meet some of you (whether you’re volunteers, clients, or just supporters) soon!
